Advil (Ibuprofen) Dosage Instructions


These are general instructions for post-operative care. You may require more specific care instructions after your procedure. Sometimes the after-effects of oral surgery are quite minimal, so not all of the instructions may apply.  Common sense will often dictate what you should do.  Please call our office if you have any questions or concerns. These Instructions are for Patients who have NO stomach ulcers and are tolerant to Advil (Ibuprofen**).


#1)         Start Advil immediately.  Take 3 to 4 Advil tablets every six hours AROUND the clock for a minimum of two days. (maximum mg’s is 800 per dose)

#2)         The prescription pain medication is to be initiated when discomfort begins. 1 to 2 tablets every six to eight hours as needed. Thus, it is acceptable to mix Advil and the prescribed medications. (Continue to take course of Advil or Ibuprofen every six hours).

#3)         As discomfort begins to diminish (possibly the next day) start tapering off pain medication and later can also taper off Advil

               (ex: Advil – 2 to 3 tablets every six hours…Advil 1 to 2 tablets every six hours, etc.)

**Please note:  if patient has stomach ulcer(s) or sensitive stomach to Advil or      Aspirin – Do Not Take . **If age 12 or under, please clarify this with Dr. Fryer **Advil and Motrin are brand names for Ibuprofen
